Peggy of New Point

Thank you Dave Machen for updating us on all the work being done to the Peggy recently. Our volunteers have been hard at work, and we are grateful for... • The gaf, donated by the Eastern Shore Watermen's Museum , which has been cleaned, sanded and varnished, by Paul Vandenbout. • Page Herbert and Dennis Crawford who have 1/3 of the deck painted. • Dave Machen who has installed a proper marine battery charger. • Pete Hall who has completed the hatch cover framing, and is beginning work on the covering. • Bob Gamish for installing the navigation lights, and for currently working on the flag staff. • Bob Lee for cleaning the bilges. Peggy's pull-out is planned for May 8, in Deltaville, VA .

Still waiting on those dates for our spring work days. We are excited to get back to these family boatbuilding projects. Good camaraderie and fun. Will post the schedule as soon we can.

Jane Partin in the museum, standing with her watercolor of the  Peggy . Local Mathews watercolor artist, Jane Partin, has created this tranquil painting of the Peggy of New Point . This series of photos was donated as we put together the 2013 calendar, Peggy of New Point . Working the pound nets... Sculling the tow bat. A lost art? Hoisting the dip net, to be emptied into Peggy's hold, waiting alongside.

The guys at the Boat Shop tell me that a boom is currently being refinished, and will be ready, fingers crossed, by Spring. In the meantime, dreary January weather is keeping us indoors, dreaming of blue skies and even bluer water. This pic, courtesy of the Grinnell family, shows Peggy , back in the days when Ed Grinnell fished and dredged local waters of the Chesapeake Bay.

Snapped a drive-by pic of our cold looking fleet this morning. Yes, those trees on the horizon are coated in ice. Peggy looks to be in good shape though, and we are making plans for a great 2015, including Peggy work days this Spring. Also, the foundation was given the hull of a mini tugboat, Gill 12, and there will be weekly build days at the Boat Shop for that. Stop by if you're in the neighborhood.
