Peggy's Year-In-Review

This article appeared in the Jan. 2016 issue of "The Broadside, The Voice of the Mathews Maritime Foundation." PEGGY’s Year-In-Review... As she celebrated her ninetieth birthday in 2015, our flagship, PEGGY of New Point was off to the official start of her new career. Her season began with a trip to Keith Ruse’s Deltaville Boatyard for the annual haul-out, hull inspection and painting. At this time, PEGGY underwent a professional marine survey. Followng an especially thorough inspection, PEGGY received an outstanding report card. After being re-launched, she was off to an informal homecoming/reception in Davis Creek. PEGGY tied-up at Captain Lowery Hudgins’ dock, in the same location where she regularly moored during her years of harvesting crabs through the winter dredging season. Leaving Davis Creek

Hi all, we received these photos from Jane Partin showing  Peggy  getting ready to leave Davis Creek on her way down to Harborfest. It was a little cloudy, a little rainy, but still such a beautiful sight. Made for some gorgeous pics too. Many thanks to Jane, and Dave for sharing and always keeping us up-to-date. Guys and dolls, all your hard work sure has paid off. A lot goes into keeping an old wooden boat like this afloat and looking so good. This is a community effort, and we sure are proud. Davis Creek, Mathews County, VA  90 years old, and still working.  In case you haven't seen it, Jane Partin has created a beautiful watercolor of the Peggy of New Point for the foundation. You can get your very own copy, and help us raise a little money in the meantime. Jane's  contact info... Peggy was built in 1925 by Harry A. Hudgins of Peary, VA, for Walter Burroughs of New Point. She was named for Walter and Birdie's younger dau...
